Every now and then a machine comes out that really makes us excited here at the shop. This year it’s the Aerocut Prime Complete from MBM. Fans of the previous Aerocut Prime will appreciate the new features that make this unit an outstanding tool for any print shop.
What Is It?
If you are not familiar with the Aerocut Prime, it is an air feed slitter / cutter / creaser / perforator / skip perforator / dish washer / bread maker / digital print finishing system. Okay, maybe I embellished a bit, but you get the picture. This machine is a complete system to cut, perforate and crease anything that will fit into it.
Where the Aerocut Prime really shines is with short-run digitally printed applications, such as business cards, post cards, invitations, greeting cards, leaflets, tickets and more. It is capable of perforating stocks both across and along the feeding direction by adding on an optional perforating unit. Flex mode allows operators to cut multiple size cards from a single page and add the desired number of creases on these. It enables designers and printers to create new aspects of applications.
The Aerocut Prime saves time and money in any print shop, in-house printer, commercial printer, or wherever it’s used. Every unit is equipped with channel creasing, allowing the machine to offer world-class creases on digitally printed stocks. Creasing pressure can be adjusted in 5 levels simply by shifting a lever. The Prime features 2 single blade slitters to trim top & bottom margins, and 2 double blade slitters for precise center gutters. The durable blades cut stocks up to 400 gsm.
Fed by an automatic air-suction top feeding system, it easily handles coated, digital, gloss and other stocks precisely without damage. The durable all-metal construction ensures the unit will last a long time, while the lockable, heavy-duty casters allow you to move the machine around your shop if needed. Plus, with all those whirring blades, the Prime features a safety access cover that prevents operation while the unit is open.
What’s New?
While most of that was true for previous Aerocut Prime models, the new Aerocut Prime Complete replaces the rear table with a conveyor / stacker to increase production output. Now you can keep the party going with the combined efforts of the conveyor system and air-feeder.
And the Prime comes with the new Lytrod Intellicut software to easily impose artwork + address data to seamlessly create PDF layouts with job barcodes and cut marks for the Prime. What does that mean?
Intellicut Software
Intellicut, by Lytrod Software, is “imposition, addressing and PDF creation software integrated with the Aerocut to optimize your print shop.” As you create art that you want to send through the Aerocut Prime, Intellicut makes it easy to format the print with cut marks, and then creates a barcode that the Prime reads to automatically cut, crease, perforate, and otherwise finish your print into the final form. Simply put, you lay out your job on your computer, Intellicut places a barcode on the print which the Aerocut reads to produce the proper finished output. You never have to mess with programming the Aerocut Prime.
The Aerocut Edition of Intellicut software includes the following:
Aerocut Preset Template Manager – Instantly produce print files for over 170 preset templates with full barcode support.
Smart Layout Assistant™ – Allows you to create Aerocut manuset custom templates with guaranteed compatibility, send custom generated manuset template settings directly to the networked Prime machine, and manage your Aerocut’s template library from your networked PC.
Postal Mailing – Merge addresses onto any Aerocut Prime layout, IMDB Intelligent Mail Barcode creation, plus automatic line ordering to retain data sorting for sheetfed Aerocut Prime cutter.
The Complete Package
Now you can see why we’re so excited about the new Aerocut Prime Complete by MBM. Not only does it slit, cut, crease and perforate, but you can program it using barcodes generated with the Intellicut software. That means you can make prints, add UV coatings or whatever, then simply feed the print through the Prime. The barcode tells the machine exactly how to handle it. You can even stack up multiple jobs on the included conveyor and never have to stop production to program new cut patterns!
